The East Islip School District has appointed Richard Zwycewicz as interim assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, effective Jan. 9. He replaces the retired Dr. Lisa Belz.
Zwycewicz has served as East Islip’s executive director for student achievement and instructional technology since 2013. In this capacity, he led districtwide efforts in data-driven instruction, instructional technology, library media programs, assessment systems, ESSA and ARP grant management, and professional development, while collaborating closely with district and building administrators to support continuous improvement. Last May, the School Administrators Association of New York State recognized him as one of its administrators of the year.
Prior to East Islip, Zwycewicz served as chief information officer for both the Sewanhaka Central High School District and the Miller Place School District, where he oversaw student information systems, data reporting, technology planning, assessment systems and districtwide instructional technology initiatives. Earlier in his career at Miller Place, he served as administrator for student services, supervising guidance programs, developing secondary master schedules and coordinating districtwide testing programs. He also served as assistant principal at Miller Place High School, where he supervised instruction, coordinated testing, managed discipline systems and organized student recognition and graduation programs. Zwycewicz began his administrative career at Floral Park Memorial High School, where he served as director of student activities and building technology facilitator, and earlier as a business education teacher for more than a decade, teaching courses including business law, computer applications, business communications and business analysis.
An East Setauket resident, Zwycewicz received his bachelor’s degree and MBA in business computer communications systems from Hofstra University, and his school district administration and school administrator/supervisor professional diplomas from Long Island University.
“My goal as an assistant superintendent is to further strengthen the work already underway in the our district by aligning strong instruction, meaningful use of data and effective technology systems to support student achievement,” Zwycewicz said. “East Islip has built a solid foundation, and I look forward to continuing that progress by working alongside principals, teachers and the superintendent’s leadership team to ensure our systems remain focused, efficient and centered on student growth.”
