A select group of 16 student vocalists from the fifth grade chorus at John F. Kennedy Elementary School opened the Suffolk County Legislative meeting on Nov. 6 with a rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.” The students were invited to perform at the event, held at the William H. Rogers Legislative Building in Hauppauge, by Suffolk County Legislator Trish Bergin, whose district includes East Islip.
“The students did a wonderful job of performing our national anthem,” JFK Chorus Director Michael Fernandez said. “Even more wonderful was how these students not only represented JFK, but also proudly represented the East Islip School District, demonstrating good behavior, kindness and gratitude to have the opportunity to perform. I am proud of the hard work that they put in to have a successful performance.”
