East Islip High School sophomore Sachin Kamath recently participated in the annual Stony Brook University Institute for Advanced Computational Science Challenge, which focuses on researching and celebrating women scientists. He selected 19th century English mathematician Ada Lovelace – considered the world's first computer programmer – as the subject of his project, creating virtual landscapes in Minecraft using mathematical algorithms written in Python. Kamath earned third place in the competition and was awarded a $500 prize.
