Summer Learning and Exploration Thrive in East Islip

Nearly 300 students in grades K-8 kept learning, creating and exploring this summer through the district’s annual Summer Innovation and Enrichment Academy.

The program offered two two-week sessions, held July 13-23 and July 27-Aug. 6. During each session, students took part in three hours of daily activities developed by a team of elementary, music, art and technology teachers, with support from teaching assistants and paraprofessionals.

Each week featured a different theme designed to make summer learning engaging and fun. The first week celebrated the World Cup, with students participating in activities inspired by soccer and the “beautiful game.” The week concluded with students wearing soccer shirts and jerseys representing favorite teams and, for some, the East Islip Soccer Club.

The second week turned its focus to the nation’s 250th birthday, with activities celebrating America. Students capped off the patriotic week by wearing red, white and blue.

“Thank you, parents, for giving us your curious and enthusiastic children to take part in our program,” East Islip High School Assistant Principal Michael Thorley said. “We look forward to seeing you again next summer.”
