Working with teacher Amanda Lastella, first grade artists at Timber Point Elementary School recently practiced a number of social and emotional skills in the school’s Exploratory Art program. One of those lessons was all about collaboration and trust among teammates. Students were put into pairs and each given a piece of paper to draw any idea they liked. After two minutes, they were asked to switch drawings with their partners to add onto the artwork that their partner started. Students had to work together on both drawings to make them the best that they could be, all the while trusting that their partner had helpful ideas to add onto their artwork each time they switched.
