During the first week of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the young students of East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School brought the Olympic spirit to life in their physical education classes.

The excitement began with a schoolwide torch relay, followed by a series of Olympic-themed activities including hockey, speed and figure skating, snowboarding, ski jumping and a creative version of curling. Along the way, students also learned about the history and traditions of the Games.

Classes tuned in to watch Team USA and athletes from around the world compete, drawing inspiration from their performances and embracing the Olympic values of perseverance, teamwork and striving to achieve their personal best.

“Gold medals for everyone,” teacher Diane Wahrenburg said.
