Two young artists from East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School celebrated a special milestone on July 1 as their winning mural designs were officially unveiled at Smith Point Beach on Fire Island. Kindergartner Sadie Green and first grader Fiona Robles were honored during a ribbon-cutting ceremony after their beach- and ocean-themed artwork was transformed into large-scale murals by professional artists from Splashes of Hope.
The students had the unique opportunity to sign their finished murals, permanently leaving their artistic mark in the Smith Point Beach tunnels. Their original designs were selected earlier this year as winners of a mural contest inviting students from kindergarten through college to create artwork celebrating the beach and ocean.
