Avery Jansen and Scarlett Zwiren, both fifth graders at Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School, attended the annual Long Island Flute Club Flute Festival on Nov. 16 with RCK Band Director Savannah Legg. At the event, held at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, the students learned more about playing the flute by attending solo and ensemble master classes with flute instructors from across Long Island. They also had the opportunity to hear a flute choir perform and learn about other instruments in the flute family, including the piccolo, alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute. The day culminated in a performance by featured flutist Melissa Callegari and the flutists who attended the festival.
