East Islip High School students had the opportunity to plan ahead for academic and college success during “Your Future, Your Plan,” an informational evening hosted by the school’s counseling department on Jan. 7. Designed for students in grades 8–11 and their families, the event provided guidance on course planning, electives, Advanced Placement opportunities and the college application process.
The evening featured a keynote presentation by Dr. John Durante, who shared insider strategies for navigating college applications, including timelines, essays and extracurricular involvement.
“Dr. Durante delivered an exceptionally powerful and engaging presentation,” Director of Careers and Student Services Dr. Jason Stanton said. “His insights into the college application process were clear, practical and immediately valuable, breaking down a complex process into actionable steps that left students and families feeling informed, motivated and confident as they plan for the future. Events like this help students connect today’s choices with their future goals and understand how thoughtful high school planning supports long-term success.”
Additional sessions included an incoming ninth-grade presentation for current eighth graders and their parents, an elective fair where families explored course options together and an AP workshop outlining expectations and the role of advanced coursework in college readiness.
“Our goal was to empower students and families with the information they need to make confident, informed decisions about their academic paths,” Dr. Stanton said. “This event allowed East Islip families to ask questions, connect with counselors and teachers, and leave with a clearer understanding of how to build a strong and personalized academic plan.”
